Will Avila
Founder and CEO
Will’s mother left him as a young boy and his father worked day and night to feed his family. He joined a gang as a teenager in search of family, role models, and a connection to something greater than himself. During the ensuing years he landed in prison. After serving his time, Will wanted to carve a new path for himself but with limited education and work experience, and no professional network or personal support, he found it incredibly challenging and struggled for a number of years with homelessness, depression, substance use, and a revolving door back into jail.
In 2014, a supportive mentor saw his potential and helped set up meetings with a few restaurants to use his kitchen cleaning experience to support their needs. His business model started as taking the dirty jobs no one wanted, and then, after working overnight for a year to learn the trade, he was able to expand into hood vent cleaning. This same level of hard work led to developing landscaping and event support skills, and ultimately the ability to be able to provide the same level of training and personal support to his team members the he had hoped for upon first coming out of prison.
Will’s goal is that anyone who truly wants a new path for themselves can find an opportunity to learn skills, build a career, and develop a family-like network of support through employment with Clean Decisions. He knows that to make this mission a reality Clean Decisions has to be the highest quality provider available, so he emphasizes to every team member that every job is mission-based work because A+ service delivery creates business growth that in turn creates a hand up to more individuals wanting a chance.
Bill Ferrell
Operations Leader
“Uncle” Bill is a constant in every team member’s life, both as a no nonsense part coach, part manager, part mentor, and part disciplinarian, but also as a rock of support who will always be there. After serving 35 years in prison, Bill came out to a totally different world, but he didn’t let that stop him. Bill trained to become one of only a handful of people certified by the DC Government’s Department of the Environment as a environmentally-friendly Riversmart contractor, and continued to grow his landscaping and native plant knowledge across the ensuing years.
Over the past three years, Bill has also focused on growing his janitorial maintenance and commercial cleaning knowledge. He has received certifications and training in best practices in building maintenance and green cleaning, and has worked across multiple government and commercial sites, to ensure that he, and the Clean Decisions team, are able to provide expert support.
Lastly, as an ordained minister and values-driven individual, Bill works with team members in a mentorship capacity to support personal growth as well.
This blend of dependability, training, hard work, and purpose-driven leadership is what makes Bill the ideal operations director to ensure Clean Decisions is providing the highest quality services to all clients while also ensuring that every team member is on track to hit personal and professional goals.
Antonio Hinton
Landscape Manager
Antonio is a family man. His wife and kids mean the world to him. He brings this same family-like viewpoint to his landscaping crew and customers as well.
For this reason, he works hard to provide extensive training for every member of the team to position them to do great work and build a career in landscaping if they so desire. He also ensures that every customers receives the highest quality service- whether that’s a simple grass cutting and weeding to a hardscape or sod installation to larger-scale design and landscape architecture work.
Most of our landscaping customers are recurring twice per month, so Antonio ensures everyone has a great looking yard and on-time, communicative service with a smile.
Alvin Narce
Clean Team Manager
Alvin was incarcerated for over 20 years. When many of us were going to prom, starting college, getting our first job, falling in love, buying our first house, moving up in our careers and many other phases in life, Alvin was working to survive prison. Alvin didn’t let that defeat him though. When he came home last year, he was ready to work hard and start a new path in life.
Clean Decisions gave him an opportunity and he has responded in an incredible way. He immediately differentiated himself with his work ethic and, in time, became a manager and is now the manager of Clean Decisions’ Clean Team program. Alvin has a gift for helping others see their potential, and establishing a culture of hard work and attention to detail while also seeing and supporting the whole person.
Alvin has also been able to play a mentorship role for individuals returning home from incarceration after 15+ years through DC’s recent IRAA legislation. Clean Decisions has focused on helping these individuals get back on their feet with work, mentorship, and housing opportunities, and Alvin has played a critical role in helping individuals navigate back to life and if they are willing to work hard have an opportunity for an immediate job leading to a career.
